Hi all,

I really like the forum you have going here, there's a great community spirit.

I thought it might be fun to try and read in the stock track prm files to have a look at the track in 3D. After much trial and error... Big thanks to Ali for the prm file format guide.

I'm happy to try out other prm's if you let me know.

Here are some thumbnail pics and links to 1600x1200 versions as well.

Not too sure if I shouldn't relocate this thread to the SNUG section, if it is only full 3D images without a direct application ?

Don't get me wrong, I like the images. ^_^
I would love to see full over looking 3D images of Skitch2 and Human's tracks.

nice pictures,
they show how good the original authors were, simple, sensible, effective.

Thanks for the interest so far!

Sorry, but I had trouble rendering the large custom tracks like helios and sakura. There were around 40,000 meshes, I can only render about 10,000 at a time without grinding to a halt. I took some smaller shots though. I could try leaving the big ones to render overnight and I will update soon.

I did felling yard last and I really like this outdoor track. I liked it so much I made a special "big" render of it. And it only uses ~16,000 meshes, so it only took a few minutes to do.

Finally, maybe one day we can race in the "frontend.prm"?

Keep the track suggestions coming.

So good pictures!

I wonder what program you rendered the prm's in? :D

nice pictures again,
felling yard and giza look like a track should.
what kind of rendering software did you use?

Skitch2
Yea very interesting.
You could have set the fog in the tracks ini folder and zoomed out in make it good, take a snapp with hypersnap and that would give the same effect but with all the vert colour. :)
But its a nice idea.

Ahhh... the Felling Yard. That was the 1st Custom Track I've ever played. It was with Plic and... Huki, I believe.

Good Times

Hello again, I noticed human and urnemanden asked about the rendering package.

I'm using a free evaluation of a 3d package called "Rhino". It only comes with 25 saves, so I make sure I don't use them much. If you are interested in giving it a try, the link is below:

[Rhino 4.0 SR4 Evaluation] (117mb)

Here is a 3dm file (Rhino file) I made for nhood1 - it has the world, instances, and the track zones:

[Nhood1 3dm zip file] (1.8mb)

Install Rhino and get my 3dm file and you'll be able to see the track in 3d! The file will require you to have a revolt directory at "C:\revolt\levels\nhood1\nhood1a.bmp" etc for textures to work in rendered view (ctrl+alt+R). Otherwise you get blanks.

If you do check out Rhino, here's a crash course:

1. RMB is to spin the view
2. Mouse wheel is zoom
3. Shift + RMB is pan
4. Left click is select item
5. You can zoom extents or zoom to an item using the various magnify glass icons
6. Layers can turn on or off to see better
7. There is wireframe, shaded and rendered views (ctrl+alt+W or S or R)
8. Double click "Perspective" to maximise that view
9. Check out the Rhino website for more info
10. Don't use all of your 25 saves and it'll keep going forever - and it's free and legal!
11. Use the help menu to learn where things are.
12. Advanced - check out analyse -> environment mapping.

Anyway, I'm slowly making progress on understanding the files. I'm pretty much done on importing, I can handle the w / ncp / prm / taz / fin files now.

I've worked on the fin file along with the prm files. These give you instances.

See the difference in nhood1:

The trees / car / ramp / lamp post / bball ring / bin are instances:

Here's are a couple of dinosaurs from Muse1:

I've started to work on the other data files like the ncp file and the taz file. Here are some pics of what they look like:
