Many users have been reporting that RV House isn't working normally in the last weeks. If someone has these problems frequently, pls confirm that not only happens for us. The common problems we've been experimenting are:
1. Nicknames in red color because the central server didn't respond when users log in. One day we had half of the users in red color.
2. Not being able to connect to P2P Network. This problem is happening more frequently now than ever did according to the people reporting, also for me. Screenshot
3. The famouse Kadc.ini crashing RV House problem. Which doesn't let you login unless you remove it from RV House/conf but this quick-fix doesn't fix the problem permanently. Screenshot
I think that some of the problems might be more related to the server than RVH.
Thanks to david312 for the screenshots.
Edit:
This is the error that RV House drops before closing randomly:

(not really a bug): when someone's nick couldn't be validated login problem/red nick, it's because RVZT's SQL has failed (ideas how to prevent this?)

Phantom @ Nov 27 2012, 03:54 AM wrote:1. Nicknames in red color because the central server didn't respond when users log in. One day we had half of the users in red color.
This is not about central server, but a problem with the account validation. In this case it means RVZT did not answer. Does Zach has any idea, has there been some problems recently in the server?
2. Not being able to connect to P2P Network. This problem is happening more frequently now than ever did according to the people reporting, also for me.
It's a wonder it has even worked this long. The P2P network used (by KadC library) is Overnet. Those old enough may remember eDonkey filesharing network. Overnet was eDonkey's P2P. Due to the nature of P2P networks, the less people using it the harder to join is, and I'd imagine the amount of people using eDonkey nowadays is quite small.
The correct solution would be to start using some other P2P library than KadC. However that's quite a bit effort.
3. The famouse Kadc.ini crashing RV House problem. Which doesn't let you login unless you remove it from RV House/conf but this quick-fix doesn't fix the problem permanently.
As I wrote above, KadC should be replaced. Fixing KadC is probably more effort than it's worth since it should be replaced anyway.
For the time being perhaps it would be best to disable the P2P mode altogether and only use centralized server. But Abc said that some people are having trouble connecting to the centralized server, like it couldn't handle all the people. The centralized server is running on a virtual server that Urnemanden graciously put up when my own server died. Does Urnemanden have any idea why the centralized server wouldn't handle the load now?

I see, fixing KadC is not the right thing to do then, the real solution is finding a good alternative soon or either disabling P2P completely. I still wonder why the crashes after trying to login are everytime more frequently. I tried using Revo Uninstaller on RVHouse a few times and I have to say it was only a temporary solution. The crashes still persist until reinstalling RVH again.
On another hand, P2P Network was the only way we could see each other when your server started dying last year, so it was useful back then. I'm not sure if disabling it completely is a better idea than finding a nice replacement.
Those people connected to P2P only are the ones in light blue, right?
Well, we see people in light blue sometimes as you can see in this picture: Screenshot
Urne still didn't say anything if his server had any problems, I doubt he knows about this yet.

No idea. I am actually quite surprised that I still have access to this server as I thought I only had 1 years free hosting at Surftown. Well, that 1 year ran out almost a year ago but fortunately for RV House the hosting doesn't seem to have stopped. That's a whole other subject though.

I have not experienced issues with connecting to the server myself and do not know if those who cannot connect to the server are the same IP adresses or if it really is based upon how many already are connected to the server.
Since the server program runs as a service I am neither sure how to check if the server software is outputting any errors. I might try look further into this later though.
PS: @Phantom, those icons look quite nice in RV House. Mind sharing them?

Sometimes as with many users, my rvhouse randomly crashes Namely, Phantom, Sb017, me and it is more lilkely to happen when im in private chat or even do not disturb mod and even happens in main chat room but less often. I can do it 2-3 times in 5 mins or it can not do it at all for 2 hours. While I play it seems stable it doesnt crash not that I can remember. But yes its happening. I suggest you come take a look when u got that chance, thx.
(Also, remember when I spoke to u about the feature that you could edit the border colors and the text? and maybe add smileys idk only suggestions)

Of course finding a nice replacement would be better than disabling it completely. I'm a big fan of the P2P functionality as then RV House is not reliant on any server.
But who has time to implement the replacement? I at least don't have the time for the foreseeable future. While I have abstracted the underlying P2P implementation from RV House's code as much as possible, you will still need to write a wrapper that implements the interface exposed by libdht. It's not as trivial as it may sound like.
PS: are you going to have some free time in the next holidays for the pending hotfixes?
In holidays surely not. That's for family time. But before and after the holidays there's more chances. I am willing to put some time into looking into the fatal errors like crashing, and disabling P2P or whatever that is making RV House usage hard. But first the problems have to be identified, and determined if they're something on RV House (and what there, is it KadC problem or something else), or in Urne server, or perhaps RVZT.

Debug logging is off, so this is no use to me. I don't remember if I disabled in one of the later versions debug logging by default as it was causing problems.
But now that problems have to be debugged all who are willing to try finding the problems should enable it.
I give you news if it crashes again. But hey, maybe it could be more stable if rvhouse connected thru revolt irc channels
Border colors what happened with that ?

Thanks,
pretty weird but the .rar file you posted did not have any rvhouse.log file. Are you sure you had restarted RV House after changing debug=1 ?
Anyway, there was kadc.log and it's last lines seemed to be cut short:
Returning 26 peers as result
Lookup for key hash returned 26 hits in 14 seconds
Logd = 120 184.32.179.168 23303
Logd = 120 213.125.64.90 11343
Logd = 122 184.32.179.168 23303
Logd = 1
This implies, but does not prove, that it might have been KadC code crashing.

Yes I'm sure I added debug=1 while RV House was closed, and then I opened RVH and after normally waiting a few minutes the crash appeared. RVH was closed automatically without prompting any error messages and I proceeded to submit the files.
Is it supposed to appear in RV House\log folder or in another place?
Cuz I sent you log, data and conf folders.

Geezus ****ing christ... It's too long since I looked at RV House code.
I'm sorry for incomplete instructions - nowadays by default the debug log is not written to file. So you need to add where to write the file or else it goes to console. I will update the original posting, but here's the update. Modify rvhouse:ini like this:
[log]
size=2000
debug=1
; Remove comment below if logging into file is required.
file=log/rvhouse.log

The log creates successfully after removing the ";" symbol from rvhouse.ini.
This is the log after aproximately 4-5 crashes, one after the other, there is approximately a 1-2 minutes difference between each one of them.
This type of crash is the same from above posts described by Raf: It doesn't show KadC error message, it occurs randomly and once it starts it's repeated very oftenly for about 5-10 minutes until you end up reinstalling RV House, which makes it stable again for some hours (maybe days?).
And it doesn't happen for everyone. cristian1 told me that never happens for him, but for AVS, Rafster, sonkite, me, others it happens exactly in the same way described above^.
Phantom @ Dec 6 2012, 05:26 AM wrote:This is the log after aproximately 4-5 crashes, one after the other, there is approximately a 1-2 minutes difference between each one of them.
Thank you for the logs. Unfortunately the logs do not seem to capture the points of the crash, or do not give any hints of it.
The logs fill up very quickly (this catches just few minutes of running time), so it'd be important to copy them immediately after a crash before starting RV House again.
But it's good to hear that the crashing happens so regularly, as it makes finding the problem more likely.
This still sounds to me like KadC problem. Can you try using it without KadC, if the crashing goes away like that. Modify rvhouse.ini to be like this:
And restart RV House. Again, if crashes happen please send me the logs. And let me know whether crashes happen.
Thanks.

Been using RV House with KadC off since you told me, there were no crashes at the moment (2 days), debug mode is on just in case I get one.
What meaaans.... ----> KadC related crashes like we supposed.
The only bad side of this is that I'm green all the time which means I can't see the people which generally are in light blue (Dogma_Chip, halo_one, Cosmo_Kramer, Touriga) even if I know they are connected.
Also some people seem to disconnect from server but they still are on RV House, so I don't see them for some minutes and when they connect again, their status shows they've been in RV House for 128 minutes for example.
This just to say that P2P network might be more important that I thought, and disabling it completely might not be the best solution.

So... we should live with the crashes for now because KadC is too important to disable at the moment?
And the server has troubles, so we should try to replace it with some other server? I suspect the server problems are related to what Urnemanden said, that they gave free support for one year. I suspect it has now reduced capability after the year has passed.

Is there any way we can properly identify that the issue is server-side and what the exact issue is? Does RV House spit out any information regarding that in debug mode?
Tonight I will check how much memory the server is using and what its current internet speed is. I know that on a activity-less afternoon the service is using no more than 16MB memory.
Also, when someone experience issues connecting to the server, please try see if it is possible to ping it. The IP and port can be found in the RV_house.ini inside /conf/.
EDIT: Right now (21:56 gmt+1) it takes up 18MB RAM and there is 2000MB available physically. The internet speed is 71Mbps download and 63 Mbps upload.

RV House does put out quite a lot of debugging information regarding connection. But whether that will help pinpoint the issues is another matter.
Frankly it is a bit of a hard problem to determine the exact reason. However, if the problems with the server started just some months ago, the best guess I have is that they relate to the "1 year free period" ending.
I don't think it's anything to do with memory usage. I'd guess something network related. Limited number of connections? Somehow more unreliable network... It's really hard to say. It could be the clients have bad connection to the server.
I remember there was talk about the need to restart the server every once in a while. I don't remember if this was implemented?

I managed to find out how to run the RV House service as a system service meaning that even though I log out of the remote controlled session, the service will continue to run. So this should not be necessary anymore.

I see you have P2P/KadC on, which probably has caused these problems. If crashing can be reproduced without the P2P part, then it's something that can be investigated.
Trying to figure out bugs in KadC is not worth the effort, it should be replaced with a more modern implementation.

Yep, with KadC Off I get no errors / crashes, which means RVHouse is internally fine. Just the P2P network is failing. This week has been mess in crashing terms for everyone again. Happens every 5 minutes.
Let's hope the KadC replacement can come soon. If anybody is willing to help with this please throw your ideas. We need someone who knows what to put in replacement to kadc and how to do it. Sorry I can't help with programming stuff.

While I'm not able to put in the time for this myself at the moment, I'm more than happy to give help by providing instructions and pointers to whoever is willing to take on this task.
I have a pretty good idea what needs to be done, but I just lack the time to do the hard work to research and implement it.
And let me say (if I haven't said it already), that this is highly interesting stuff... Creating services that do not require any server. It worked well for somewhile, but now we need a new P2P network to use. And it's going to be very interesting seeing how it works with a more popular service. I'm excited already thinking about it .

Lagging in race has nothing to do with RV House centralized server. Centralized server is only used while chatting in RV House and setting up the games. Once you're in the game, the data communication is all between participants - not with the centralized server. Host of the race is the one making most of the difference.
With that out of the way, as urnemande said, hopefully during next week centralized server is up-and-running. Time to pray.
