One thing I would highly recommend everyone to do is
to drop/delete/ignore the XBox related source. Acclaim
and all the other developers are probably all long
gone but Msoft is a 500lb gorilla you don't want to
water off. I left the Xbox stuff in there because I
thought there might be some useful tidbits in there.
If it gets outside of your group (the source), you're
probably going to get a phone call from a lawyer or
two (Acclaim, MSoft, Rad, etc). I think as long as you
keep in the circle of trusted people (behind password
FTP, not general HTTP) you will be fine.
In the forum I read a lot about a RV2. That's cool,
but keep it to yourselves, no?

You can always use the RVHouse as a basic chat room, thats easy enough to get in to, with out having to find the right active servers or specific rooms.
Theres usually someone there.

Human, AustNet have some bans about specific ISPs. I was banned for a while of time. I contacted to
help@austnet.org (i think that was this mail) and I request to quit the ban. Now I havent the ban, try to talk with them. They do that because people from specific ISPs are flooders or something like and this is bad for the server.
Hope this helped.
Another thing:
I thought that maybe we need a "special" forum to talk about the source code, how to edit it, who edits it, legal stuff, etc...
What do you think?
See ya!

Will be a forum special to talk about Re-Volt source?

From the french forum: darksabre has tried compiling the code with Visual C+ 6 but it didn't go well, 2113 errors. Corrections needed to configuration and code he says.

I don't know if he knows specifically why the errors...
And about the forum... I think it's a good idea, but it depends on the people who actually will start doing something with the source. I know I can't in the near future.

If you want a detailed report of errors, i can put the plg report from visual c++ on internet.

Ok all errors or fixed now, i've compiled the revolt.exe but:
-it's a beta or less
-it's totaly unfunctional
Now the last thing is trying to compile rconv & habitat, 2 softs very interresting.
Maybe recontact "william murray" to know more. For me he was in the xobx adaptation team.
Other thing, for errors, you need to update your lib & include directory from visual c++ with the directX SDK 8 (8.0a for me)

Habitat was the tool they used to create the tracks yea?
If the code is unfunctional, does this mean we can't advance the ReVolt we already have ,Like increasing stuff like textures? and car and track amounts?
I know nothing about programming so humor me lol.
Posted: 11 May 2006, 15:20
darksabre
For now we can't work on this version without bigs adaptations but:
-it is possible their is a special organisation of files for this release
-rconv & habitat are usefull to create multiframe textures or gouraud in cars & tracks or to optimize litghs in tracks
-we can try to have more precisions from our contact
-the xbox source seems to be more recent
Posted: 11 May 2006, 15:35
arto
So it is as I suspected, that it is an earlier version...
Maybe MM or someone can let the contact know that this is an old prerelease version and if they received sources for a more recent one?
In any case I think the sources are useful in determining many important details of the engine. I think it would be lots of work (but not impossible) to bring these sources up-to-date with the released Re-Volt. It's just that I'm not sure if we have anyone in the community with the required time and skill to do such a work.
I'm a bit skeptical about the usability of the Xbox sources. They are more recent just for the fact that work on the Xbox version started just some years ago. But if they based their version on this very early version of Re-Volt, it might not do any good and cause even more work to try adapting it back to PC version.
I think this version that we received should work mostly ok... all the basic code is there. But the bells and whistles, like command-line switches, registry settings, frontend, loading screens etc. finishing touches are not done/unfinished. It may sound like small potatoes, but unfortunately with software development the last 5% of details might take surprisingly long time to fix. This is doubly so for source that no one knows.
It's a great thing though that darksabre has managed to compile the code and produce a version that can be run. One little detail is that Re-Volt was developed with DirectX 7, or maybe even DirectX 6. If compiling DirectX 8 works, good, but it may potentially cause incompatibility with the real Re-Volt. Or not. Just an observation.
Posted: 11 May 2006, 15:38
arto
Oh and why the sources they received ar not the most recent ones?
I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the Probe team, who developed the game, was disbanded by Acclaim after Re-Volt. Maybe things did not go nicely and Acclaim was left with only a very early source.
Who knows.

-Who are you (lol)
-What's jour job/What you do with the RV source
-How to correctly compile/What we need to do it
-What version is. Do you have the last one?
-Main knowledge about how is distrubuited the code.
-If he can help or someone can
Well this is the ones I have in mind right now.

Guess I'm the slowest then...
How about a mod, that can directly transmit images from your mind into re-volt? Or one that delivers expensive goods/Tony Blair to my front door?
Maybe this Ghostbusters guy can help...
I can't get onto austnet either and emailing them is just far to much effort for my fingers. I'll just keep getting disconnected and hope it works eventually.

A few news:
- darksabre has found out that the XBox version indeed is based on a newer version of Re-Volt. It is the best hope for compiling a current version of RV. I also checked the XBox sources then and indeed, there's all the familiar registry settings in there.
- ADX has put up a forum to discuss this.
Due to the sensitive nature of the sources, I think it would be best to drop/delete this topic from here, and everyone who has interest in the source would contact ADX to get access to the new board.

Yo Alex,
I have been working on a M2RV (Mind to ReVolt) hat which should work with windows XP. Beta testing results are ok but the only track I have been able to produce is of a nacked women and is not suitable for release.
Still I hope to have it completed soon.
